We went back to school and spent a day with the kids at Thornton-in-Craven Primary School. Our team enjoyed the fun as much as they did as Amy Teal and Emily Preston from our Cross Hills shop set about showing the pupils how to make delicious sausage rolls.
From preparing the sausage meat filling to making and rolling the pastry, glazing and baking the sausage rolls, the children were able to watch and participate.
Headteacher Suzie Brown was pleased to welcome us to the classroom, saying:
“Sharing this experience with the children was not just about creating a delicious treat they could enjoy afterwards and take home, but also an opportunity to teach pupils about nutrition and for them to understand a bit about what goes on behind the scenes at a local business. Learning a creative skill from experts in a hands-on way like this is a treat for all of us.”
Skipton photographer Stephen Garnett was there to mark the day for posterity and made sure the experience was a good excuse to get a bit messy!
Naturally everyone enjoyed tucking into the sausage rolls afterwards.
Among the pupils were young George Teal, cousin Will Teal and his sister Ivy, showing all the makings of following their parents into the family business one day.
If your local primary school is interested in a visit from us, do tell them to get in touch with Amy on 01535 635916.
