Who doesn’t love a pie? One of the things that makes us special is that we have our own busy bakery at Crosshills which keeps all three shops and our online customers supplied with fabulous pastry products from tasty pasties and sausage rolls to stand pies and quiches.
We make an astonishing 12,000 pies every week. That’s nearly a pie per head when you consider the population of Skipton is less than 15,000!
A great deal of those are pork pies. Our MD Steve Teal reckons “My perfect pie is a traditional British pork pie made with evenly baked hot water pastry to give a crispy bite. It should be filled with free range Yorkshire pork filling, coarsely minced with cure and peppery seasoning then topped up with seasoned jelly. Perfect served hot with mushy peas, or cold with salad.” Our customers seem to agree.
Some of our pies are award-winning, including the Venison, Red Wine & Mushroom that scooped Bronze in the Game category of the 2024 British Pie Awards.
